More than just a pub

About The Gold Cup Inn

The Gold Cup Inn, Nether Silton

The Gold Cup Inn is a friendly, community-run pub at the heart of Nether Silton, serving the villages of Nether Silton, Over Silton and Kepwick. Nestled on the edge of the North York Moors National Park, we are proud to be the only local meeting place in the area outside of the village churches — a place where people come together to socialise, relax and feel part of the community.

A Pub with History and Heart

Our villages of Nether Silton, Over Silton and Kepwick have a long and rich history, dating back to the Domesday Book, and The Gold Cup Inn has always been at the heart of local life. Set on the edge of the North York Moors National Park, the pub is surrounded by open countryside, quiet lanes and far-reaching views that have changed little over generations.

The Gold Cup Inn sits close to a network of well-loved walking routes, including links to the Cleveland Way National Trail, which passes nearby through the Hambleton Hills, offering spectacular views across the Vale of York. Local footpaths connect the pub to Osmotherley, Boltby, and Sutton Bank, making it a popular stopping point for walkers exploring both gentle countryside strolls and more challenging moorland hikes.

Cyclists are equally well served, with the pub lying on quiet country roads ideal for road cycling and touring. Routes through Kepwick, Thimbleby and Osmotherley form part of classic North Yorkshire loops, while nearby climbs such as White Horse Bank and Sutton Bank are favourites for more adventurous riders. For many years, The Gold Cup Inn has offered a warm welcome to those arriving on foot, by bike, or simply in search of a peaceful pint in beautiful surroundings.

Whether you’re calling in after a long walk, pausing mid-ride, or simply enjoying the calm of rural North Yorkshire, The Gold Cup Inn remains a place to rest, refuel and reconnect — a true community pub rooted in its landscape and proud of its heritage.

Community Run, Volunteer Led

Since December 2025, The Gold Cup Inn has been successfully run by  the local community on a volunteer basis.  It was clear to all that keeping the pub open was overwhelmingly important to local residents. This commitment and the overwhelming support from local residents has provided an opportunity to create a unique destination pub.

In the same month a volunteer Steering Group was formed to guide the transition of the pub into community ownership and to ensure it remains sustainable for the long term. The Steering Group are facilitating the transition to a fully registered Community Benefits Society, whereby the pub will be run by the community, for the community.

Today, the pub operates as a welcoming wet-led bar, serving a range of beers, wines and spirits at affordable prices, in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere.

More Than Just a Pub

In a rural area with limited public transport and an ageing population, social connection matters. The Gold Cup Inn plays a vital role in reducing isolation and bringing people together. It has long hosted — and aims to continue hosting — community events such as quiz nights, carol singing, private celebrations, local clubs, and seasonal gatherings.

We are working towards re-establishing the pub as a true village hub: a place for all ages, where locals and visitors alike feel at home. From cosy evenings by the log fire to sunny afternoons in the beer garden, the pub offers a welcoming space year-round

Looking to the Future

Our vision is to secure the long-term future of The Gold Cup Inn as a thriving community asset. In the short term, this means running a sustainable, volunteer-led pub focused on quality drinks and community activity. Over time, we hope to expand what we offer — potentially reintroducing food, daytime opening, events, and other services that reflect the needs of our community and visitors to the area.

The longer-term ambition is for the pub to become strong enough to support a manager who shares our values and vision, ensuring the Gold Cup Inn remains at the heart of village life for generations to come
